Laid off and happy about it!

Last Friday I was laid off from the many years I spent working with homeless youth. 15 people had their jobs eliminated. The non-profit sector is really hurting and it is sad to think that the homeless are losing services and access. On a personal note, I put in 9 years with Urban Peak, and there was no warning, just a brief call into an office tears from everyone and a box. I was really sad to lose my health benefits, especially since I was sitting there with a chapstick taped to my broken pinky finger, I am clumbsy I need health insurance! The other thing that really hurt was that they took my eco-pass, my bus pass. I love going green. Yes, that night I cried, and my friends brought apple rum, and cigarettes. I tend to smoke only when I drink... well my company coffee cup was mysteriously repeatedly smashed to pieces that evening...oops :)

As we all know things happen all at once, that day I had my first sale from my new business, and lost my job.

My home is in a state of transition, my sweetheart Juan just moved in, I rented out the spare room in my house to a student, and the basement apartment tenant is moving out, so I am looking for a renter.

Okay so here I am in a state of shock really but not sad. I am supposed to be depressed, right? I am not, I am in love with a great guy, I finally got the courage to start my own business, I need the time off to get my feet on the ground and take the steps towards my future. I would have never quit my low paying job at Urban Peak. I kept talking to the Universe about the need for making more money, which is why I started a business. I knew I was not going to be able to pay off my debt making 12.95 an hour, yes it was a non-profit for all. I needed Urban Peak to let me go inorder to take steps toward my future.

Here I am, a little freaked out, but finding my feet, my courage, and facing my fears.

I was laid off in April. 30 of my coworkers have been laid off since. File for unemployement immediately. And remember, you're far from alone these days.
