Last Friday I was laid off from the many years I spent working with homeless youth. 15 people had their jobs eliminated. The non-profit sector is really hurting and it is sad to think that the homeless are losing services and access. On a personal note, I put in 9 years with Urban Peak, and there was no warning, just a brief call into an office tears from everyone and a box. I took a job working on a film called "Portal." I was hired to do hair, make-up and wardrobe, and was told I had about three weeks to get the wardrobe together. Yesterday I didn't make it to flamenco class, I got off work late and knew I couldn't make it on time. I still wanted a good work out so I started pushing my way home up Broadway. I figured I would scoot until I was tired and then hop the bus. I discovered I have no patience for waiting for the bus. I pushed myself all the way home. The Experiment- Going for a week without my car in order to see how I feel about getting rid of my car entirely. This would save me 500$ a month! My work gave me an Eco pass (free public transportation anytime) and I bought a Razor scooter. Okay so how spoiled am I? I love my car.
