Wanna Camp with a Project at Apo? Try the Green Screen!!
We're looking for some fun and green folks to camp with and be involved with The Green Screen Project, back again for its 2nd year at Apogaea!
About the Project:
The Green Screen's mission is to educate Apogaeans on environmental issues, and empower them to make a difference in greening their Burn, their home, and the world at large.
TGS by day is a workshop and drop-in educational area, with loads of info to learn from, interesting articles to read, stimulating discussions, etc.
By night, TGS is an environmental movie theater, run totally by energy collected from the sun!
We're not highly organized as a "camp", meaning we don't have a kitchen, nor a shower, etc. Sharing food is an option, and something we can discuss as the time gets closer (or, if someone wants to take on creating a small kitchen, go for it!!).
But, we do have a chill space, of sorts, that comes with the project- a beautiful 12-15' PVC star dome, filled with comfy stuff, educational materials, and presentation equipment.
So, we're more about "doing" community stuff, than partying our butts off all night and being worthless during the day (though we *are* all about having a good time...!!).
If this sounds like the camp for you, here are the expectations/needs:
1) NO DRAMA!!! We're a "service to the community project/camp", if you bring drama to the camp and make us deal with it, we can't be of complete service to community... (fyi- we'll kick you and your drama out if its dragging us down- sorry!!)
2) help out/DO-ocracy- if something needs doing or helping with, step in and help make it happen! TGS needs are all on-site, meaning there are no "work weekends" required to camp with us, just lend a hand here and there during the event!
-Our major needs are setup- 3-4 hours of not very hard labor, extra hands make it go much faster; teardown is much faster, 2-3 hrs. Early entrance is available for setup folks...
-then 1-2 hours total every day/evening, to get the movies started and transition the area from workshop/lecture space, to more snuggly movie-watching mode (and back again in the morning).
- The biggest daily need is to have people drop by the camp every few hours at night, to make sure the power is still up and running for the camp, and to change over tapes/movies if the current ones have finished (I have 6-8 hr tapes made for each night, which should be enough for a whole evening, unless folks want to watch something specific on a DVD that'll only run 2 hrs, then we'll need to put the tape back in).
- Next biggest need is during inclement weather to help get electronics and such covered/unplugged if it heavily rains/lightnings.
-Be green! Help out with the green projects that will be taking place- recycling, composting, educating, etc. Whatever suits your fancy, jump in and help the magic happen! Note- this is totally on your own terms, no one is "forced" to host a lecture or whatever, or deal with the recyclable material if you don't "want" to...
-HAVE FUN!! We really are just looking for fun, interesting, and positive people to play with, we know you'll find your niche for how to contribute in our "do-ocracy", so it shouldn't ever feel like work!!
